Boys Varsity Track, Girls Varsity Track · South repeats as Class 6A pole vault champion

Muscle Shoals pole vaulter Nick South earned his second straight Class 6A state championship last weekend at the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s 4A-7A state championships in Gulf Shores.

South cleared 15 feet, 8.25 inches to win the 6A pole vault title.

His first place finish helped propel the Trojans to a fifth place finish in the state.

Muscle Shoals’ girls finished 12th overall.

South was also second in the 300 hurdles and third in the 110 hurdles.

Stephen Tanner finished third in the discus.

Jordyn Peters was fourth in the high jump and seventh in the long jump.

Trey Williams was 14th in the 100 meter dash.

Jared Tittle was 10th in the javelin.

Tomalaski Johnson finished 16th in the 200 meters.

Kaylie Wright led the Lady Trojans with three top 10 finishes. She was third in the long jump, fourth in the 200 and ninth in the 100 meter dash.

Kara Nix finished sixth in the 1600 and seventh in the 3200.

Lauren Brackin was ninth in the 3200 and 11th overall in the 800.
